Effect of Propanol on Growth Rate of Anodic Porous Alumina in Sulfuric Acid

Previously, we studied the anodization of aluminum by adding alcohol to common acidic electrolytes with a focus on film formation efficiency and hardness anodic oxide film. In this study, difference in carbon number monohydric alcohols select propanol as an additive confirm whether effects behavior growth rate are universal regardless type. The tendency concentration dependence conductivity viscosity was generally consistent results obtained using methanol ethanol additives; however, unlike other alcohols, steady state voltage during constant current decreased increased amount propanol. Unlike sulfuric acid only, addition clearly improved under mild conditions below 100 A‧m −2 high density above 500 .
